My
story begins in Škofja Loka, a picturesque medieval town of 20,000
in Slovenia.
A descendant of WWII resistance figthers and a daughter of
entrepreneurs, I once made a wish: “I would love to see Paris,
New York City, and Hawaii!” when marveling at a stack of
postcards from my grandmother's brother, a sailor.
But
the two decades I got to spend immersed in nature of lush forests,
rolling hills, and surrounded by family and friends before
basketball brought me to New York City at the age of 20, truly
formed me - and my open-minded outlooks on the world.
In today's episode, I take you on a journey back in time, and 4,500
miles East from the US East coast:
- through the streets of my thousand-year hometown with the castle
on a hill (where my husband and I married for the second time);
- to a family cottage that my dad and granddad built (and that was
our shelter when the Balkan War broke out);
- open the doors to our multi-generational home (and tell you how
literal sausages were made in our condo).
- and take you skiing to the Alps, and camping to the picturesque
Croatian coast (think Mamma Mia 2).
C'mon, grab some coffee (and maybe some tissues), lean back, and
let's go.
